There is a more than a hundred year-long cinema tradition in Mostar, but few has survived the war. The MM film club tries to revive it by regular film screenings and some special film events througout the year. Yet the film club's goals are heading for more:

Mostar Intercultural Festival

In June/July 2001, the annual "Mostar Intercultural Festival" (MIF) is already taking place for the fifth time. Its purpose is to present Bosnia-Herzegovinian and European alternative youth culture(s) -- and to encourage further activity.

During the two-weeks festival, Mostar's streets are crowded with people from all over Europe. They enjoy a broad variety of events: concerts and DJs, theatre and arts exhibits, acrobatics and street spectacles, film and video, eco-actions and work with children.

Whereas mainly French organisations, "Guernica" and "Drugi Most" (The Other Bridge), were carrying the festival in the past, there are now groups from Mostar involved -- among them, of course, Mladi Most. Besides own cultural contributions (photo exhibitions, theatre performance of Rea Silvia), Mladi Most participated actively in the preparations of the MIFestival. Programme and technics are planned throughout the year and at least two weeks before the festival, MM premises turn into a bee hive where the last questions are being fixed.

The Festival is open to all interested persons -- just contact the organising group at: mostarinterculturalfestival@yahoo.com

youth exchanges

Youth exchanges are an important means to overcome borders -- not only internationally, but within Mostar itself, too. This is why Mladi Most helps that each year numerous youngsters can participate in exchanges (such as Camp 15/ Germany, St.Maria de Rubin/ Spain, Barcelona and France in 2001).

One example is the co-operation of Mladi Most and "Alternativni Institut" (Mostar) with the Barcelona-based NGO "RAI". As such, the exchange project "reconstructing the ways of dialogue in Bosnia-Herzegovina" is taking place for the second time. The participants do not only learn about the country they are visiting, but have to explain their view on their own country. This is especially interesting wthin the Mostarian context, where there is few communication and contacts between different parts of the town. Besides that, participants also learn how to organise an exchange and to continue it in the future.

Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL) "local activities" Programme
www.shl-online.deHundred thousands of students from Northern Germany collected money to support the work of "Schüler Helfen Leben" (SHL) in South-Eastern Europe. One of the most important SHL-programmes is "local activities", which is offering unbureaucratic support for the activities of youth groups or individuals. Up to 300 DM (150 USD) are available for cultural, artistic, social or political projects and actions.

Nevertheless, grassroots-oriented programmes like this yet need a local network to support it. Mladi Most, for example, informs and helps young people from Mostar, who want to realise their projects.
